Apostolic Servanthood

On sunday I wrote about Jenny & I's experience at Harvest House. We led the service and then took 3 people downtown to share the love of Jesus with anyone who happened to be around. Right after the service a woman and her roommate were expressing their desire to come out with us but they weren't able to do it that day because of a prior commitment. They said that the idea of street evangelism terrified them, but the cost of NOT doing it was far greater than staying in their comfort zones. I asked what time was good for them and they said monday evening. So I told them that Jenny & I would come back at that time and take them out. I really feel that to be a true servant of God, we must inconvenience ourselves and our schedules for the potential betterment of others.

So, around 5:45pm the next day, Jenny & I made our way to Harvest House to see if they really meant what they said the day before. I left them feeling rather skeptical, because usually if you don't do something right away, it doesn't happen. To our great surprise, when we pulled up, there was 10 people waiting outside!!! At first we thought most of them were just hanging around, which is a common sight in this area of Charlottetown, but these saints were all there for the opportunity to stretch out of their comfort zones and obey the Great Commission Jesus gave us. It was a far better turnout than any time I ever tried to mobilize teams at Bible College! Amazing!

With Jenny & I included the team numbered twelve, so I divided us up into 3 groups of 4; Roy took Hillsboro St, Jenny took University Ave, and I took Queen St. EVERYONE was pushed out of their comfort zones.

Jenny and I led by example and demonstrated how Holy Ghost has taught us. Then we encouraged our teams to step out in boldness, and do the same. Tracks and Bibles were handed out, curses were thrown our way, some were not interested in talking, but others were interested. The biggest fruit we seen though, was in the lives of our teams. They couldn't believe how easy and practical witnessing was.

The best story was from Roy and his team who witnessed to Boomer Gallant!! Thats pretty sweet. For a second, I thought Roy was gonna get on the evening weather update! They also handed out a New Testament to a man who professed to be Muslim. I was kind of skeptical again but though, "Oh well, whatever." But, when we were walking back to Harvest House, this gentleman rounded a corner and began greeting us emphatically thanking us for the literature we gave him and saying he was eager to go home and read it! This man surely looked like he was from the Middle Eastern region.

It was an amazing couple of days. Never before had I been part of a church congregation whom immediately desired to apply the message that was preached. We left our teams saying that when we return in the Fall, we would like to be part of an existing evangelistic team rather than leading one. We pray that the Fire that has been lit would be fed, and not diminish.

We thank Noel and Harvest House for the opportunity to give out of what we have recieved.

un-nice weather

The weather indeed has been un-nice. We have had a couple times where we had the top down on the LeBaron, but those times have been few and far between.
Our time has been spent visiting , visiting, visiting, and seeing the sights of Prince Edward Island. I think we have 15 separate visits scheduled for our time here. It has been good though.
Yesterday we went to Faithworks and I got to give a brief testimony about the goings on and the upcomings in our life. It was great to see my congregation and spend a little time with them.
After that, Noel allowed Jenny & I to conduct the service ourselves! We had a blast. Some worship, followed by an amazing message by Jenny, followed by a (not as good) message by me an evangelism. After the service we gave an opportunity to put their faith into action by hitting the streets of downtown Charlottetown for some 'evangelism outreach'!! Three people came out with us; which was like 25% of the total attendance!! So that was sweet. We got to speak into the lives of a few people and tear down the walls that religion had built up in their lives! We may take a couple others from Harvest House to the streets tonight.
It has been a really nice time on the Island though. It is passing by quickly. On friday we fly to Albany, NY. But, this week is filled with visitations too. A highlight will be on thursday, when Jenny & I travel to Murray River to attend my cousin Charmayne's Daycare. I hear the kids are eagerly awaiting us.

Superbowl Sunday

I never went to church this morning but I watched a bit of it online. Peter Youngren was a bit choked at the idea of church members skipping church this eve to watch the Superbowl so he made someone change the sign out front and promised an AMAZING sermon in place of the football game. Well, I just got back from NCC and I've definitely heard him preach better messages. And it didnt seem to matter to much of the congregation since most of them did indeed skip out on church to watch the game (or pray, or fast, or intercede, or something, hopefully!). And I never watched the game but the New York Giants have won the Superbowl beating the New England Patriots 17 - 14.

And then.......

Well, I've been back in Canada for a week and I've mixed feelings about the whole thing. It is great to be back and syeeing some of my bestest friends still going hard after God. John, in his 3rd letter says, "I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth." (3John 4) . I absolutely adore this scripture and kind of have adopted it and I keep it close to me. I truly desire to see everyone walking close to God and running hard the race.

The opportunities to minister have been abundant here. Through the last week I have been able to speak at a nursing home, sing songs and pray at a hospital, do visitations with children from broken homes, do street and bar evangelism; sunday we did another nursing home service, and monday I got to speak at another nursing home. It has truly been awesome. God has really been speaking to me since I returned about taking and making the most of EVERY opportunity He gives me. Of being a good steward of opportunity. It has been good. He makes up for my inadequecies. It was a good weekend as well. I spent most of it at TACF. Heidi Baker was ministering thursday eve and friday eve, wih Ruth Fazal and Kelly Warren leading worship respectively. It was an awesome few days and now I pray for the opportunity to give out of what I recieved there.

So now, I return to PEI. I wil be there by next week and will remain through the holidays. What is next? Who knows? I sure don't. I have high expectations for what God is gonna do over the next 6-7 weeks though. Blessings to you all, He is good.

Why did the Pope, Mother Teresa, and St Francis cross the road?

The answer is totally obvious.........................TO PREACH THE GOSPEL!!! And thats what they did.

Last night was obviously Halloween and I wanted to go to the bars dressed as religious icons and spread the Good News of what Jesus has done for people. Colin Jackson and I went to Niagra Falls to look for costumes and when we were there I convinced him and Jenny Brown to dress up as the Pope and Mother Teresa (respectively). So, we did.

Later that night we went downtown St Catharines and started going outside bars, inside bars, and on the street witnessing to people about the Gospel of grace. We were told off and cursed at a lot and MANY were surprised when they found out we were not putting on a show but were actually genuine and concerned for their realtionship with Jesus. We got quite a few opportunities to speak into people's lives but the highlight was when Colin and I jumped up onto a ledge and started open-air preaching to a group of about 30 people standing in line to get into a bar! They thought we were fools until they realized we were preachers of "Grace" and not "condemnation"! Looks on faces changed and people couldn't believe what we were actually doing. It was pretty sweet. We were out for a bit over 2 hours and there were times I couldn't help but wonder where all the other christians were? We did run into one Christian, but he wasn't out to evangelize. It is too bad for all the people who want Jesus but don't have anyone to show them His love. Sad.

We realized just how much people need Jesus. In Africa they are all to ready to admit their need for Him; it's obvious. Here in the 1st World people need Him just as much, they just don't realize it. Help us reach the world Lord, please.

day of street outreach in TO

Today was pretty sweet. Josh Heymans, Jenny (Hinn) Brown, and myself, cruised to Toronto at about 9am for a day of street ministry. It was an absolutely beautiful day, at about 20 degrees or so. We had 20 bags of assorted food with us and approached random people who were obviously staying on the street, and asked them if they wanted some food, and if they knew Jesus, etc. We were quite surprised at the amount of food these people received on a daily basis, and that they had obviously received this food from Christians, seeing that they all knew about Jesus. We gave out around 14 or 15 bags of food and had some decent ministry time. The highlight (or un-highlight) of the day was when Jenny and I stopped to talk to some Muslims who were giving out some free Qurans. We were talking to them for a few minutes, but neither of us were making much headway, so we took our Qurans and started walking away when we ran into a couple of Christian fanatics all dressed in white robes passing out gospel tracts. They seen the Quran in my hand and started proclaiming that Jesus was the only one who died and rose again (which is not even scripturally accurate; see 1Kings 17:17-23, 2Kings 4:32-37, 2Kings 13:20-21, Luke 7:12-15, John 11:39-44) and that all other's beliefs were wrong. Jenny and I got into a bit of an argument with them about the kind of people Jesus tried to reach while He was on earth. They thought that you should scorn unbelievers, while we thought you should love them. The last thing I (loudly) said as we walked away was, "I'd rather talk to the Muslims!" It was one of the most disgusting displays of Christianity I ever was personally involved with. It made me sick. The Muslims were so kind and open to talk, and were giving away free literature, etc etc, while the "christians" were proclaiming judgement, while they stood in their "white" robes. What a sight. Man oh man, it made us so mad. Even Jenny was gettin into the thick of the argument. It was awesome. After that we gave out some more food and had to rush back to St Catharines for 4 o'clock. My word was on the line!! Thank You Jesus, so much, for getting us back in time!

Then Heymans, Johanna and I watched Let's Go To Prison. It wasn't anything to write home about. What an awesome day though.

gettin ready!!!

Tomorrow, Josh Heymans, Melody Wallace, Jenny Brown, and myself cruise to Toronto to do some street outreach. We are leaving around 9am and plan on just cruisin down to Younge St and giving out food to whoever looks like they are need of some. Tonight, Josh, Melody and myself made bags of food (with Bibles) to distribute tomorrow. Good times. We don't know how this is gonna look, but it should be pretty sweet (in theory). Each bag has a sub sandwich, a bottle of water, an apple, two juice drinks, two cookies, two bags of chips, two granola bars, a New Testament or a Gospel of John, and another booklet on Salvation. Thats one sweet bag of goodies! It's also supposed to be an amazing day tomorrow; might get up to 20 degrees! Nice. And a special shout out to Kyle, who hooked us up with most of this food. What an enormous blessing that was. God is pretty cool.

In other news: final exams have started. New Testament Survey was super hard. Ministry Gifts wasn't that hard at all. Thinking Biblically and Healing Of The Soul were both jokes. We are in exam mode till next wednesday. Then there is our Grad Banquet on saturday the 29th, and our actual graduation on the 30th.

a new day

So, I just spent the morning re-editing my blog. I kinda like it. What do you think? Yes, I admit it. I like orange. I just do, so what. I gotta tell you about the Pen Center evangelism Josh Heymans, Jessica Brown, Humphrey Onzere, and I did last night; it was sweet. I'm gonna tell it in 4 sections.
Heymans: Josh wasn't gettin into the flow well untill the close of the evening. He had not much success until a we sat down with guy and wanted to pray for his broken hand. The ladies with him got extremely offended and took off so we sat down and had a great conversation with him and got to pray for his hand. We're believing for a great testimony when the doctor takes his cast off. Then Josh literally got called over by a group of 6 or 7 to preach to them. I don't know what was said cause I was talking to another fellow, but he was witnessing up a storm.
Humphrey:............is hardcore. This was Humphrey's first time out with "Josh Squared", and he tore it up. He just liked to go sit beside someone on a bench and use his African residency as a door opener. He got to talk openly about Christ with at least 4 people. Humphrey just took some bold initiative and didn't wait for us to point him in a direction, he just went for it, and had awesome results. People were almost crying as he shared with them about how much God loved them and how He showed that love for them by sending Jesus to die on their behalf. Nice job God, and Humphrey.
Jessica and I: We pretty much teamed up. But as I was getting my quad band cell phone unlocked so I can use it in Africa, Jessica went up to this guy who was pushing around a little girl in a wheelchair and asked if she could pray for the girl. He was a Bible believing Christian and let her. It was a big step of boldness. We had been asking God to send some sick people to us so we could pray for them, and God answered. Be careful what you pray for. Then we walked up to 2 girls and I bluntly asked them, "Do you girls know Jesus?" They answered, "No............ do you want to tell us about him?" So we got to share about the love of God, and what Easter had been all about, etc etc. Good stuff. Then we got to lay hands on this guy and pray for him. The I seen a girl who looked like I did a few years ago (extremely sad and lonely) so I sent Jessica over to her and she got to dramatically speak into her life in a way that she might never had before. It was awesome.

All this, and I was under constant threat of being permanently banned from that Mall for doing the very thing we were doing! These 3 people braved the threat as well, cause they too would undoubtedly have been banned for being with me. Book of Acts anointing?.............not really, but I'll take it. It was another awesome evangelical experience anyway.

Niagara Falls evangelism

I just got back not long ago from evangelizing in a mall in Niagara Falls. It wasn't the best day of witnessing, but it's always good. It's an addictive habit to start. Colin and Jessica picked up Kyle, Jenny, and I at the Fairview Mall and we booked it to Niagara Falls. Since it was cold and windy, we stuck to indoors. Like I said, people were not too excited to hear about the love of Jesus today, but a couple of people were at least willing to talk to us for a few minutes.

On the way there, we stopped at this Catholic church and went inside. It was an awesome church. I love the old churches with the stained glass and stuff. I'm not much for the idols, but hey, the charismatics aren't perfect either; far from it. It was a good day though, at the Falls.

In about an hour I head to Wal-Mart for my last shift. Time in St Catharines is drawing to a close. I will indeed miss some of the people I've met here. I won't likely admit it to them, but I will. Anyways, if I never see them again, "I'll see them by the River", so it's all good. Keep evangelizing everyone. Let's get this "Christ-business" done!

Fairview Mall evangelism

After work today, I cruised over to the Vine Towers and picked up Jenny Brown, Mark Enos, and Sheri Smith for monday evangelism. We cruised to the Fairview Mall (cause we didn't have a car, and I didn't want to get them banned from the Pen Center) to talk to some people about Jesus. Mark talked to a couple of guys but had NO luck. Jenny and I approached a girl reading on a bench and were able to talk to her for a few moments, but she didn't seem to recieve it too well; not bad, but not great. Then as Jenny and I were headed back to find Mark and Sheri, I notice this guy sitting on a bench just sort of staring off into space. We approach him and I ask the infamous, "Hey man, do you know Jesus?" question. He turns out to be from Japan, and we rave to him for like 10-15 min and totally speak into his life as none have ever before. It was pretty sweet. I ended up giving him my Amplified New Testament, and inviting him to see Eight Days at NCC this sunday. On our way home I asked Mark and Sheri if they had 'earned' their evangelism credit and Sheri was hesitant to say, so we told her there would be an opportunity as we walked back. Then she tears across the highway and into the parking lot of Dairy Queen and starts totally gospelizing this guy. It was HARDCORENESS! Way to go Sheri. On top of that, this was her first time out evangelizing ever! I smell a reformer in the making. Anyways, we had some good times. Everyone who reads this.............GO EVANGELIZING!!!!

Clifton Hill (Niagara Falls)

This evening Josh Heymans, Jenny (Hinn) Brown, Tim Hawryluk and I went to Clifton Hill to do some street ministry. It was an 'alright' time, nothing too special, but some people did indeed get to hear of the love of God, so that was good. The weather was great today, Clifton Hill is gonna be a great evangelism opportunity when it warms up and the tourist season starts. Wonder if I'll still be around here?

Today, Josh Heymans and I took Jenny (Jenny Hinn, as I call her; as she is a budding super-evangelist) and Jessica Brown (who has one of the greatest servant hearts I have ever seen) out to the Pen Center for some good ole Mall Evangelism. Jessica and I walked around and talked to a few people; we got to pray for this chic who had sore hips (more from her later). We went back to the food court area to meet up with Josh and jenny, and we seen Jenny talking to a girl and Josh was not around. We meet up with Josh and then Jenny comes back with this awesome story:

Josh tells her to go over to this certain table and tell the girl sitting there about Jesus. So she goes over and asked her if she knows Jesus. The girl pretty much breaks down and is weeping saying that she had been asking God that if he was real, etc, that He would send someone to testify of His goodness, etc. So for about 10 minutes, Jenny totally gets to Gospelize her and speak words of life into her. What an awesome testimony; one of the best of the semester! You go God!

Then as we are all cruisin to get an Orange Julius, the security guard that kicked us out 2 mondays ago came up to me again and said that there were more complaints directed towards us and that we (once again) had to leave. She said that if it happens one more time we would be permanently banned from the Pen Center, Glory to God. I believe it was the girl who Jessica and I prayed over who complained to the security guard about us. We seen her talking to one of the store workers whom I credit our gettin kicked out last time to. Anyways, it sure was some good times. I have to try and find out in the St catharines by-laws what our rights are for Mall Evangelism. Things could get quite interesting.

an Ezekiel anointing?

Ezekiel 4?.................Nah. We did get to tell the Gospel to three youngsters who ended up with 3 New Testaments, and Kyle and I got to pray with the Catholic gentleman. Pretty good cosidering Josh and I got kicked out of this same place last monday for doing the same thing! And I also got some habenero hot sauce. Sweet!!

kicked out of the Pen Center

So Josh Heymans and I get about 20 New Testaments today and we take a fellow Celebration Bible College student (Timothy from Nigeria) to the Pen Center to evangelize and give out some free bibles. Good idea, right? Apparently the people at the Pen Center didn't think so. About 30 minutes or so into our outreach, a security guard comes up to me and tells me that she was getting complaints about us and that we have to leave. Wow, it's a pretty sad state when you are handing out a book that leads to eternal bliss (as well as present day victorious living), and you get told that you're not wanted! Whatever! I think we're going back on friday, if not before. It was a rather slack time of evangelizing anyhow; people were just not into talking about Jesus today. What's up with that?! Could you think of a more interesting topic to talk about? Good luck.

hanging out with Holy Spirit

That's right. Last night, Josh Heymans, Kyle Laviolette, and I cruised to the Pen Center to do some 'basic' (if there is such a thing) evangelism. Sometimes it's hard to get going, so we sat on a bench and just asked Holy Spirit to manifest and bring some Kindom action on the scene. First, Josh and I got to pray for some guy that had had a stroke; he said he felt better following. Then I talked to a couple people very breifly after getting (what I thought was) a word of wisdom; it turned out to be fairly innacurate though; whatever! Then Kyle and I totally Gospelized this guy who was quite bitter against God and the church, and who had a really tough time seeing anything good about God or Jesus, etc. And not that I blame him. The church has done a terrible job of accurately portraying the love of Jesus. (Dont get me started.) As we were witnessing to this guy, Josh was speaking a word over this girl who approached him asking if she knew him? How cool is that?! Then he starts talking to some other Christians who were seated right next to him and gets to pray for one of their wrists, and she immediately says it feels better! Nice. Then we head to the movie theatre and right outside the door we get passed by this guy on crutches and 2 of his friends. We ask him if we can lay our hands on him and pray for God to heal his foot. He says "sure", and his friend says, "Can you pray for me too?" Sure, man. So, the guy with the sore foot didn't get healed but we were able to minister to them for a few minutes, praise God!!

After our evangelism stint, we headed back to 35 Elma St and watched Super Size Me with Peter & Julie. Great night.

John 12:32

Jesus will indeed draw people to Him if we but lift Him up and give Him the praise, honor, and glory due His name. Josh Heymans, Melody Wallace, Mark Enos, and I went to the Pen Center this evening for some evangelism and had a time and a half. First we split up into two groups (Josh & Mark; Myself & Melody) and we cruised around looking for people to witness to. It didn't go too great untill we met up at the food court and started challenging each other. Then Josh stepped in front of these two teenagers and asked them if they knew about God's abundant love for them, or something to that effect. They weren't up for it and walked away; but they told 3 of their other friends who came over immediately and started asking if we were the ones who knew about God. So within 10 minutes, we had a group of about 12 teenagers all standing around us in the middle of the mall as we preached up a storm to them. It was quite an event. Most of them were really willing to actually 'listen' to us and recieve the things which God had for them to hear. It was really something. It was something God initiated Himself and something we couldn't have done in our best attempts at all.

Then we headed to Niagara International Worship Center for a saturday night Worship EXPLOSION!!! It was actually quite AMAZING. But that song 'friend of God' follows me around like a bad cold! I cant escape it. "Whats up with that God?!!" Anyways, see what ya's think. Blessings all; it truly was an anointed evening.

evangelism wednesday

Today was 'evangelism wednesday' at CBC. So Josh Heymans and I took Priscilla out to the Pen Center to see what we could get ourselves into. We looked for sick people but couldn't find any cause the Pen Center ain't very busy on a wednesday afternoon. So Pricilla and I started playing chess on this floor chess board. We were hopin to draw a crowd, wherewich we could do some soap-box preaching, but a crowd just didnt get interested. So Josh just cruise's over to this handful of students and starts witnessing to them. This sparked a great time of cruising around the mall and doing some prophetic evangelism. We were asking for God to give us names of people walking by, and then we would approach them and ask them if their names were the ones which we believed God gave us. It's a great way to learn to hear God better. Our batting average wasn't very high, but at least we went down swinging rather than stand at the plate and watch pitches go by. I did go up to one girl at the food mart and speak a bit of God's love for her into her day, so that was sweet. We also got to push Priscilla WAY out of her comfort zone. I like doing that to people.

So I am thinking of changing evangelism times from wedensday afternoon, to saturday afternoons. The opportunities to speak to people are infintely greater, as the numbers are so much more. T'was good times today. It's a great thing to get into the habit of actually doing what the bible says to do...........................oops, did I just say that.
